Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 October 2026
BibleKenya is free to read, needs no account and shows no advertising. This policy explains what information is involved when you use biblekenya.com, why, and the choices you have.
What a person reads in the Bible can reveal their religious beliefs, which Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019 treats as sensitive personal data. We have designed BibleKenya so that your personal reading stays on your own device, and so that our website statistics cannot show which chapters or verses any one person reads.
Who we are
BibleKenya (biblekenya.com) is a Bible reading and study website built in Kenya. For any privacy question or request, email info@biblekenya.com.
What stays on your device
Your bookmarks, highlights, private notes, reading history and progress, reading-plan and memory-verse progress, reader settings (theme, text size, font) and downloaded Bible books are stored in your browser (browser storage such as IndexedDB and localStorage). They are not sent to BibleKenya, are not linked to an account, and do not synchronise between devices. You can export or delete them from the Saved page, remove offline books from Downloads, or clear this site’s data in your browser.
What our servers receive
Like every website, BibleKenya’s servers receive the address of each page you open, your IP address and your browser’s technical details so they can send the page to you. Searches are sent to the server so it can return results; BibleKenya does not keep a history of searches. Our hosting provider (Rocket.net) and its security and delivery network (Cloudflare) process this information to deliver the site and protect it from attacks, and may keep it in their logs for a limited period for that purpose.
Google Analytics, only if you accept
With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand overall use of the website, for example which sections are popular, which Bible languages are read and whether pages work well on phones, so that we can improve BibleKenya. We do not use it for advertising.
- Nothing before you choose. On your first visit we ask for your choice. Until you press Accept, Google’s analytics script is not loaded at all, so no analytics cookies are set and nothing is sent to Google. If you press Reject, that stays the case.
- What is sent after you accept. The pages you visit, shortened as described below; the kind of device, browser and screen; your approximate location (country and region or city, which Google works out from your IP address; Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses); how you arrived (for example from a search engine); and simple interactions: how far you scroll, links to other websites, file downloads, use of forms (never what you type) and plays of embedded videos.
- How pages are shortened. Bible chapter and verse pages are reported only as the Bible version you are reading, never the book, chapter or verse. Life-situation guides are counted together as one group. Search words, verse references after a question mark and everything after # in an address are removed before anything is sent.
- What is never sent. Your notes, highlights, bookmarks, saved verses, search words, email address or name.
- No advertising features. Google Signals and ads personalisation are switched off, the analytics property is not linked to Google Ads or AdSense, and advertising consent is always set to “denied”.
- Retention. Google Analytics keeps event-level data for 2 months, after which only aggregated reports remain.
- Who processes it. Google processes analytics data on our behalf as a service provider, and may process it on servers outside Kenya. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Cookies and browser storage
| Name | Purpose | Set when | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| bk-consent (browser storage) | Remembers your analytics choice | You make a choice | 12 months, then we ask again |
| Reader settings, saved notes and offline books (browser storage) | Make the reader work as you set it, including offline | You use those features | Until you delete them |
| __cf_bm (cookie) | Cloudflare security: tells people from automated traffic | Every visit (strictly necessary) | 30 minutes |
| _ga, _ga_<ID> (cookies) | Google Analytics: count visits and returning browsers | Only after you accept analytics | Up to 2 years, or until you reject analytics or clear cookies |
Change your choice at any time
You can accept or reject analytics whenever you like. Rejecting it never limits what you can read: every page, version and feature works the same. If you reject after accepting, analytics stops and BibleKenya removes the Google Analytics cookies from your browser.
The same control is available from “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
Children and the Kids Bible
The Kids Bible and the children’s memory verses load no analytics and no advertising tags, and show no cookie banner because nothing optional is used there. Children never need to sign in or give their name, age or birthday, and their progress stays in the browser on their device.
Advertising
BibleKenya shows no advertising, has no sponsored verses or study content, and uses no advertising, remarketing or affiliate trackers.
Your rights
Under Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to be informed how your personal data is used, to access it, to object to its processing, to have inaccurate data corrected and to have data deleted, and you may withdraw consent at any time. Because BibleKenya has no accounts and keeps your reading on your device, we usually hold no information that identifies you. Analytics data is not linked to your name, so we cannot look up one person’s records in it; deleting your browser’s cookies or rejecting analytics stops any further collection. To make a request, email info@biblekenya.com.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya.
Changes to this policy
If we change how BibleKenya uses information, we will update this page and the date at the top. A change that needs your permission will be asked for again.
