Retelling or Scripture? Explaining the difference
Why the Kids Bible keeps its retellings separate from the Bible text, and how to help children notice the difference.
Why it matters
A retelling is our summary; the Bible is what God's people have received as Scripture. Children should know which one they are reading.
What we never do
We never call a retelling a Bible translation, never change the wording of a licensed Bible edition, and never add events, speeches or miracles that the passage does not contain.
Noticing the gap
Popular ideas such as an apple in Eden, a whale for Jonah or three wise men are not in the text. The "True or not stated?" activities and the explorer notes help children spot them.
