Key Verses in Ephesians
Important passages from Ephesians, each shown in full in your chosen Bible version with its setting and meaning.
8for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9not of works, that no one would boast. 10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them. By grace you have been saved through faith
Salvation is God's gift, not earned by works; yet believers are created in Christ Jesus for good works God prepared for them.
26“Be angry, and don’t sin.” Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, 27and don’t give place to the devil. Be angry, and do not sin
Quoting Psalm 4:4, Paul allows for anger but warns against letting it lead to sin or lasting past sunset.
And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Be kind and forgiving
Paul ends a section on new life together: be kind and tender-hearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for her, Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church
Part of Paul's teaching on households (5:21-33), which begins with "submit to one another" (5:21). Husbands are to love sacrificially, as Christ gave himself for the church.
1Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2“Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with a promise: 3“that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.” Children, obey your parents
Paul addresses children directly, quoting the commandment to honour father and mother; the next verse tells fathers not to provoke their children (6:4).
10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. The armour of God
Paul ends Ephesians by urging believers to be strong in the Lord and put on the whole armour of God to stand against the devil's schemes (6:10-18).
