Day 122 of 365
God's covenant with David · Chronicles: the covenant with David · A psalm of David …
2 Samuel 7 WEB
1When the king lived in his house, and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies all around, 2the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but God’s ark dwells within curtains.” 3Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you.” 4That same night, the LORD’s word came to Nathan, saying, 5“Go and tell my servant David, ‘The LORD says, “Should you build me a house for me to dwell in? 6For I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought the children of Israel up out of Egypt, even to this day, but have moved around in a tent and in a tabernacle. 7In all places in which I have walked with all the children of Israel, did I say a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built me a house of cedar?’”’ 8Now therefore tell my servant David this: ‘The LORD of Armies says, “I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people, over Israel. 9I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you. I will make you a great name, like the name of the great ones who are on the earth. 10I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place and be moved no more. The children of wickedness will not afflict them any more, as at the first, 11and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. I will cause you to rest from all your enemies. Moreover the LORD tells you that the LORD will make you a house. 12When your days are fulfilled and you sleep with your fathers, I will set up your offspring after you, who will proceed out of your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13He will build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14I will be his father, and he will be my son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the stripes of the children of men; 15but my loving kindness will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you. 16Your house and your kingdom will be made sure forever before you. Your throne will be established forever.”’” 17Nathan spoke to David all these words, and according to all this vision. 18Then David the king went in and sat before the LORD; and he said, “Who am I, Lord GOD, and what is my house, that you have brought me this far? 19This was yet a small thing in your eyes, Lord GOD, but you have spoken also of your servant’s house for a great while to come; and this among men, Lord GOD! 20What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, Lord GOD. 21For your word’s sake, and according to your own heart, you have worked all this greatness, to make your servant know it. 22Therefore you are great, LORD God. For there is no one like you, neither is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 23What one nation on the earth is like your people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem to himself for a people, and to make himself a name, and to do great things for you, and awesome things for your land, before your people, whom you redeemed to yourself out of Egypt, from the nations and their gods? 24You established for yourself your people Israel to be your people forever; and you, LORD, became their God. 25“Now, LORD God, the word that you have spoken concerning your servant, and concerning his house, confirm it forever, and do as you have spoken. 26Let your name be magnified forever, saying, ‘The LORD of Armies is God over Israel; and the house of your servant David will be established before you.’ 27For you, LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, have revealed to your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house.’ Therefore your servant has found in his heart to pray this prayer to you. 28“Now, O Lord GOD, you are God, and your words are truth, and you have promised this good thing to your servant. 29Now therefore, let it please you to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you; for you, Lord GOD, have spoken it. Let the house of your servant be blessed forever with your blessing.”
1 Chronicles 17 WEB
1When David was living in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, “Behold, I live in a cedar house, but the ark of the LORD’s covenant is in a tent.” 2Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart; for God is with you.” 3That same night, the word of God came to Nathan, saying, 4“Go and tell David my servant, ‘The LORD says, “You shall not build me a house to dwell in; 5for I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought up Israel to this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tent to another. 6In all places in which I have walked with all Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people, saying, ‘Why have you not built me a house of cedar?’”’ 7“Now therefore, you shall tell my servant David, ‘The LORD of Armies says, “I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people Israel. 8I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you. I will make you a name like the name of the great ones who are on the earth. 9I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more. The children of wickedness will not waste them any more, as at the first, 10and from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover I tell you that the LORD will build you a house. 11It will happen, when your days are fulfilled that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up your offspring after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12He will build me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. 13I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will not take my loving kindness away from him, as I took it from him who was before you; 14but I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom forever. His throne will be established forever.”’” 15According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David. 16Then David the king went in and sat before the LORD; and he said, “Who am I, LORD God, and what is my house, that you have brought me this far? 17This was a small thing in your eyes, O God, but you have spoken of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and have respected me according to the standard of a man of high degree, LORD God. 18What can David say yet more to you concerning the honor which is done to your servant? For you know your servant. 19LORD, for your servant’s sake, and according to your own heart, you have done all this greatness, to make known all these great things. 20LORD, there is no one like you, neither is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 21What one nation on the earth is like your people Israel, whom God went to redeem to himself for a people, to make you a name by great and awesome things, in driving out nations from before your people whom you redeemed out of Egypt? 22For you made your people Israel your own people forever; and you, LORD, became their God. 23Now, LORD, let the word that you have spoken concerning your servant, and concerning his house, be established forever, and do as you have spoken. 24Let your name be established and magnified forever, saying, ‘The LORD of Armies is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel. The house of David your servant is established before you.’ 25For you, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build him a house. Therefore your servant has found courage to pray before you. 26Now, LORD, you are God, and have promised this good thing to your servant. 27Now it has pleased you to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you; for you, LORD, have blessed, and it is blessed forever.”
Psalm 101 WEB
1I will sing of loving kindness and justice. To you, LORD, I will sing praises. 2I will be careful to live a blameless life. When will you come to me? I will walk within my house with a blameless heart. 3I will set no vile thing before my eyes. I hate the deeds of faithless men. They will not cling to me. 4A perverse heart will be far from me. I will have nothing to do with evil. 5I will silence whoever secretly slanders his neighbor. I won’t tolerate one who is arrogant and conceited. 6My eyes will be on the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me. He who walks in a perfect way, he will serve me. 7He who practices deceit won’t dwell within my house. He who speaks falsehood won’t be established before my eyes. 8Morning by morning, I will destroy all the wicked of the land, to cut off all the workers of iniquity from the LORD’s city.
Psalm 110 WEB
1The LORD says to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool for your feet.” 2The LORD will send out the rod of your strength out of Zion. Rule among your enemies. 3Your people offer themselves willingly in the day of your power, in holy array. Out of the womb of the morning, you have the dew of your youth. 4The LORD has sworn, and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.” 5The Lord is at your right hand. He will crush kings in the day of his wrath. 6He will judge among the nations. He will heap up dead bodies. He will crush the ruler of the whole earth. 7He will drink of the brook on the way; therefore he will lift up his head.
Psalms 11–12 WEB
11:1In the LORD, I take refuge. How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”? 2For, behold, the wicked bend their bows. They set their arrows on the strings, that they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart. 3If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? 4The LORD is in his holy temple. The LORD is on his throne in heaven. His eyes observe. His eyes examine the children of men. 5The LORD examines the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and him who loves violence. 6On the wicked he will rain blazing coals; fire, sulfur, and scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. 7For the LORD is righteous. He loves righteousness. The upright shall see his face.
12:1Help, LORD; for the godly man ceases. For the faithful fail from among the children of men. 2Everyone lies to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart. 3May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts, 4who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail. Our lips are our own. Who is lord over us?” 5“Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says the LORD; “I will set him in safety from those who malign him.” 6The LORD’s words are flawless words, as silver refined in a clay furnace, purified seven times. 7You will keep them, LORD. You will preserve them from this generation forever. 8The wicked walk on every side, when what is vile is exalted among the sons of men.
