Wounded for our transgressions
Isaiah 53:4–6 — Meaning, Context and Bible Study
Isaiah 53:4–6 WEB
4Surely he has borne our sickness and carried our suffering; yet we considered him plagued, struck by God, and afflicted. 5But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed. 6All we like sheep have gone astray. Everyone has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Context
Part of the fourth Servant Song (52:13-53:12), which describes a servant who suffers for the sins of others. The New Testament applies it to Jesus (Acts 8:32-35; 1 Peter 2:24).
Read it in its setting. "By his wounds we are healed" speaks first of healing from sin and its effects (1 Peter 2:24). Matthew 8:17 links the passage to Jesus' healing ministry, but it is not a promise that every illness will be cured on request.
