Genesis 29–35 · Numbers 1 and 26

The Twelve Tribes of Israel

The sons of Jacob, their mothers, the tribes and clans named after them, and the people Scripture places in each tribe.

Scripture in WEBWorld English Bible — Protestant Edition

The tribes of Israel take their names from Jacob's sons. Leah bore Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun; Rachel bore Joseph and Benjamin; Bilhah bore Dan and Naphtali; Zilpah bore Gad and Asher. Genesis 35:22–26

Biblical lists of the tribes are not all the same. Levi received no land and was counted apart, and Joseph's line was counted as two tribes, Ephraim and Manasseh, so the census lists still name twelve. Numbers 1:32–35Numbers 1:47–49Genesis 48:5

Numbers 26 names the clans ("families") within each tribe after the sons and grandsons of Jacob's sons. Those clans are listed on each tribe's page. Numbers 26:5–62
