David's parents and brothers, his wives, his sons born in Hebron and Jerusalem, and the royal line of his house.

Scripture in WEBWorld English Bible — Protestant Edition

David was the youngest son of Jesse of Bethlehem. 1 Samuel says Jesse had eight sons; 1 Chronicles names seven, with David the seventh, and two sisters, Zeruiah and Abigail. 1 Samuel 16:10–131 Samuel 17:12–141 Chronicles 2:13–17

Six sons were born to David in Hebron by six mothers, and more in Jerusalem, four of them by Bathsheba. Solomon succeeded him; Luke's genealogy of Jesus runs through his brother Nathan. 2 Samuel 3:2–52 Samuel 5:13–161 Chronicles 3:1–9Luke 3:31

Not every king of Judah or Israel was David's descendant. The northern kings came from other houses, and Saul, who reigned before David, was a Benjamite of another family. 1 Kings 12:201 Samuel 9:1–2
