Generosity in the Bible
Giving that flows from God’s generosity: open hands in the law, the widow’s offering, the first church sharing, cheerful giving, and honest warnings about wealth.
Editorial text in English. Scripture is quoted from the version you choose; references stay the same in every version.
Introduction
Generosity in Scripture flows from God’s own generosity. The law tells Israel to open their hand to the poor; Jesus praises a widow’s small offering; the first believers share their possessions. Deuteronomy 15:7–11Luke 21:1–4Acts 2:44–45
The New Testament asks for giving that is willing rather than forced, and warns against trusting in wealth. It does not present giving as a way to become rich. 2 Corinthians 9:71 Timothy 6:17–19
